Anxiety

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety takes on various forms such as separation anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and generalized anxiety. We all experience anxiety in some form because of normal life stress but when it interferes with our day-to-day life it can be classified as an anxiety disorder.

Symptoms of Anxiety?

Anxiety is sometimes called worry. When we worry over small and large issues to a greater degree than is healthy, we may have generalized anxiety and it may be a disorder.

  • Do you find that it’s very difficult to let go of or set aside worry?
  • Do you feel “on edge”, keyed up, or restless a lot?
  • Do you find that it is difficult to concentrate or your mind goes blank?
  • Do you worry about excessively worrying?
  • Do you find uncertainty to be unnerving?
You may even have physical symptoms such as:

  • Do you feel an overwhelming tiredness also known as fatigue?
  • Do you snap at others and find everyone annoying? Some might say you’re irritable?
  • Do you find that your muscles are sore and your body aches?
  • Do you find yourself trembling or feeling twitchy?
  • Are you startled easily?
  • Do you have trouble sleeping or sweating?
  • Do you feel sick to your stomach? Do you feel nauseous, have diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome?
  • Does your head ache?
Children, Teens, and Anxiety
Sometimes kids worry about performance in school, performance in sports or other extracurricular activities. Sometimes young people worry about their safety to an extreme degree. Punctuality can be difficult and kids stress about being on time or getting into trouble.
Do you or your young one struggle with:

  • Fear of not fitting in?
  • Do you find yourself trying to get it perfect or good enough?
  • Do you sometimes worry that you aren’t good enough? Maybe you work really hard for approval?
  • Do you lack confidence in yourself and put yourself down in your mind?
Adults and Anxiety

  • Do you struggle with fear that your boss won’t keep you but there’s no evidence of this?
  • Do you fear that your spouse will leave you even though they consistently reassure you they won’t?\
  • Do you feel overwhelmed with the potential of something going wrong?
  • Is your worry interfering with your work and other relationships?
